That is why i used the word might. In Spain left and right are not the issue. They have other political divides that seem to take the headlines.
First of all let it be clear that I am not a Francoist or support any kind of dictatorships, come they from the right or the left.
A strong democracy should be able to deal with its past.
Franco died more than 40 years ago.
The number of spanish that support hid ideas today is scarce.
I see antagonizing his figure and his family these days the way the socialist government is doing, could be hazardous (not to mentione petty).
In Spain (and Portugal) extreme right wing movements have no representation, at least not as in France or Germany.
Someone wrote in an ancient post that this is an usual habit of the socialists to divert the people from more urgent problems such as the economy, unemployment, corruption among politics and others, etc.
The previous socialist PM's Gonzalez or Zapatero might have used the theme from times to times but they never did anything like the present one - order the exhumation of Franco and want to revoke the title.
The present PM seems more willing to reopen wounds that are more or less closed.
I realize that the late Duchess of Franco did nothing special to deserve the title, but the then king decided to bestow the title on her and she wore it in a dignified way.
There is no reason for such title to be revoked as neither of her descendants has caused any damage to the crown or country.
That might awake sleeping dogs that are best kept asleep.
