Distance??? Do you know that the Valle de los Caídos is 50 kms away from the center of Madrid? It’s really not that visible to the vast majority of people. As Manuel says, this nonsense of attempting to move Franco’s corpse only happens whenever the Socialists come to power. In Spain, it’s the Left who is still obsessed with the civil war and Franco.
I'm interesting why Spanish conservatives always oppose these plans to rebury Franco. Don't they want to put some "distance" between themselves and his regime? And possibly also a gesture of good will to those who suffered under his regime.
Well, a "usual" news when a socialist Government comes to power. Let's it if this time they actually do it or just propaganda, like in the past. After announcing it, now it is not a "priority". I have read today that the family has written to the Vatican to stop it.
An English-language story about the ongoing efforts to move the remains of the husband of the 1st Senora de Meiras (and father of the 1st Duquesa de Franco) from the basilica of the Valle de los Caidos. Also the remains of the 3rd Marques de Estella (called Duque de Primo de Rivera).
Nothing actually decided yet.
