Much of the palace has been altered over the centuries. In the last 120 years the main block has slowly been restored to showcase the state apartments and the grand and small apartments of the king and queen on the main floor. Below on the ground floor the large ground floor gallery underneath the Mirror Hall has been restored as have the apartments of the Dauphin, Dauphine, Madame Adelaide and her sister.
On the higher floors the apartments of Madame de Pompadour and Madame du Barry have been restored as well.
Both wings have lost their apartments for other uses.
