Could we compare such relationship with the Habsbourg Austria/Habsbourg Toscana one?
I believe the Tuscan archidukes had to ask permission to their Granduke AND to the Emperor to marry.
Or they could have one and not the other, and therefore remain dinasts of Tuscany and not of Austria?
