His Royal Highness Prince Carlos de Bourbon de Parme, the eldest son of Princess Irene of the Netherlands and the Duke of Parma, is getting married. He intends to marry Anne-Marie Gualthérie van Weezel, in the coming year, so was announced by the family.
Carlos Javier Bernardo Prince de Bourbon de Parme was born on January 27, 1970 in Nimeguen, the Netherlands. He has one brother and two sisters. Prince Carlos studied Economics, History and Political Science at Wesleyan University in Connecticut (United States) and Demography and Philosophy at the University of Cambridge (England). He is presently Director of the Foundation for Innovation and Sustainability.
Anne-Marie Cecilia Gualthérie van Weezel was born on December 18, 1977 in The Hague. She has one older brother and a younger sister. Annemarie took her final exam in French at the Université de Strasbourg (France) and studied Law at the University of Utrecht. Then followed the Postgraduate Education in Radio and Television Journalism at the University of Groninguen. She now works as a parliamentary journalist for the NOS (the Dutch equivalent of the BBC) in The Hague.
Anne-Marie Gualthérie van Weezel is a daughter of J.S.L. Gualthérie van Weezel, former member of the Dutch Parliament, former Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands at the Council of Europe and Her Majesty's former Ambassador in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The father, a member of the CDA (Christian-Democrats) has a conservative profile and is known as a staunch monarchist.
The grandfather of Anne-Marie is J.H.A.K. Gualthérie van Weezel originally was a Notary, became a member of the Dutch resistance in WWII, joined the Commando Corps and became Chief of the Police The Hague in 1952. He remained in that position until 1970.
However of a certain standing in society, and despite the well-sounding surname, the family Gualthérie van Weezel is neither noble nor patrician.
