Monaco does have a long history of bad marriages.
That didn't prevent the reigning princes to insist.

: little opportunity to marry? I do not think
: so.
: He was - like many other French - an
: officier in the Napolonic army and served as
: an equerry to the Empress. Many, many, many
: officiers - including the very well-born or
: who became princes etc - married during this
: time. He became Prince of Monaco at the age
: 31 and died in 1841. So plenty of time to
: marry, even if his reign was quite tough and
: he died a very disappointed person.
: The married history of his family was never
: that good, however his brothers marriage was
: a happy one. So maybe he was simply not the
: marrying kind of guy. One does not need to
: marry!
: And the succession was secured.

: I know that at the time the Monaco princely
: family did not attire the attention it does
: today, but does anyone know why Honoré V
: never got married.
:
: Honore V was born in 1778.
:
: In 1793 the principality was abolished.
: Honore III was imprisoned and died soon
: after. His daughter in law Francoise Therese
: was guillotined. His grandson, the future
: Honore V, was drafted into the Napoleonic
: army. The principality was restored in 1814
: and Honore V took possession on behalf of
: his sick father (who died in 1819).
:
: So it may be that Honore V had little
: opportunity to marry. Or it may be that he
: was put off the idea by the failed marriages
: of Honore III (separated) and Honore IV
: (divorced).
