You are right, but the same-sex marriage law was passed during a socialist govt., not during the PP Govt. And the PP has gone before the constitutional court, to try to repeal the law. The conservative party is against calling same-sex unions marriage. They would prefer the British or French law, for example.

: Henri, more and more often I wonder under what
: rock you have been living the last couple of
: years.
:
: Spain has been a progressive country for
: years already. My grandfather, who went to
: Spain very often during the Franco-years (on
: field trips with students being a professor
: in geology), said that Spain has made up for
: lost years after Franco died.
:
: Spain was, after the Netherlands, the second
: European country to accept gay marriages for
: example. And this was done during the 'rule'
: of the PP, the 'conservative' party.
:
: I think it would be wise for you to forget
: about the old Spain and focus on the new
: Spain which is one of the more progressive
: countries of the European Union.
:
: As for being proud of your country...I
: really don't see why one can not be proud of
: ones country when the inheritance rules for
: noble families have been changed. I would be
: very proud seeing that the government has,
: on all terrains, stressed the total equality
: between men and women.

: Look at mr. Leopoldo Calvo Sotelo. He seems
: to
: have been a monarchist. I can imagine his
: ideal is a Spain which cherishes its
: patrimonium, is proud on its history, sees
: the royal family, the Church, the armed
: forces and the nobility as part of that
: Spain
:
: For an outsider like me, all these values
: seems under pressure, like Spain is
: searching for its identity. The only
: isntitution which still seems to be
: respected are the armed forces.
:
: It is beyond belief seeing archives from TVE
: of 30 years ago and now. Things have changed
: in Spain in a turbo-mode!!
