Janet, that is a recent "custom" I do not like it either. It also happened some weeks ago, during the moto grand prix in Jerez. The King was interviewed as if he were an ordinary citizen. It was become very common to see royals aswering to journalists about many common topics. Another side effect of the "modern monarchy", I guess.

: Perhaps it was just a Spanish thing, simply
: being polite or something, I think it was
: last year or the year before and I was
: rather dumbfounded when my husband was
: watching Formula One racing and watching the
: Spanish Grand Prix and the UK TV commentator
: quite literally bumped into the King of
: Spain and started chatting to him for a few
: minutes live on air. I was quite surprised
: how jovial and polite the Spanish King
: appeared.
:
: That said it seems to be becoming more
: common, a few days ago I saw the Dubai
: Sheikh and Princess Haya being interviewed
: at the racing on UK TV so who knows perhaps
: its a British thing, I somehow can't quite
: imagine Queen Elizabeth II simply addressing
: some random media cameras.
