My "miracle" Cochese was born on April 15, 2004. Right after he was born we noticed be had swelling between his hind legs & hoped it would go away but just got worse. After a few days of observation we moved Cochese & mom to a different location closer to our home. The next day after swelling just got worse & noticed he could not urinate, with no other choice, with him in my lap in the back of my car I had someone drive us to the vet. After the vets astonishment of his arrival he went over all possibilities with me & it didn't sound good. Thoughts of a rupture & having to put him down or possibly castrate him were discussed. After examining him it was discovered that he had been stepped on & a whole was tore in his belly wall letting his vital organs come out. The vet did everything he could to put everything back where it was supposed to be & closed up the whole. Then it was time to wait & see if he pulled through. We brought mom to stay with him overnight & the next day they called & said he seemed to be doing fine & we could pick him & mom up. We watched & worried for the next weeks as we had to drain the pouch of skin every day & hope that infection didn't set in. To our amazement we all got through it & Cochese is a happy & healthy 3 month old colt now. After draining the pouch & giving him medicine for a few weeks his skin that was stretched out has shrunk back to normal & we couldn't be happier with the outcome. Our "big guy" is a very well mannered & behaved foal because of the "special handling" he had to endure in his first days & we couldn't be more proud. We just wanted to brag on "mom" too because without her being so trusting toward us with her first foal we wouldn't have been able to get the great results that we did! Cochese now has a half sister "Majesty" that keeps him busy playing & just enjoying life. Have great pictures if you would like to see!!
