Earlier, I posted about the subject of overlapping reigns of multiple female sovereigns. I'm interested in other (more specific) statistics: what is the record number of female monarchs simultaneously reigning? There have been several times in which the same three women reigned:
During the entire 33-year reign of Beatrix of the Netherlands, her fellow queens regnant were Elizbeth II of Great Britain and Margrethe II of Denmark.
Between 1972 and 1980, they were Queen Juliana of the Netherlands, Queen Elizbeth II of Great Britain, and Queen Margrethe II of Denmark.
Between 1952 and 1964, they were Grand Duchess Charlotte of Luxembourg, Queen Juliana of the Netherlands, and Queen Elizbeth II of Great Britain.
Between 1837 and 1853, they were Queen Isabel II of Spain, Queen Maria II of Portugal, and Queen Victoria of Great Britain.
I doubt there has ever been a time when Europe had four female monarchs simultaneously reigning ... or perhaps I'm mistaken?
What are other periods in history with three female monarchs reigning simultaneously? Is 33 years the record for the longest such period? 41 years if one were to disregard individuals (the fact that Juliana gave way to Beatrix in the Netherlands?
What about the record for the longest period in which the same two women reigned? Would it be 50 years? Queen Margrethe II celebrated her golden jubilee in Denmark in the same year that Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her platinum jubilee in Great Britain.
