Are the rankings within Europe's peerage mainly Serene, Royal, & Imperial. In Europe, Imperial is used mainly in Austria and Russia? Royal is found in all of the kingdoms now existing along with several former ones. Is Serene now being used within the European peerage?
There is not a “European peerage”. The styles in the forme of - Highness which have been used among reigning, formerly reigning, and mediatized European families are, in descending “grandeur”:
* Imperial (& Royal) Highness
* Royal Highness
* Grand Ducal Highness
* Highness
* Ducal Serene Highness
* Serene Highness
* Illustrious Highness
In the presently European reigning families only *Royal Highness*, *Highness*, and *Serene Highness* are in use unless a spouse from a formerly reigning family has a higher style recognized.
