Here in the UK, the practice of using Monarchs to mark periods of history as far as I know didn't happen until the 20th century. As you say most of the 19th century is usually called Victorian and the early part of the 20th Century Edwardian. Bridging the 18th/19th Centuries is the Regency Period and before that we have the Georgian era. Prior to that in English History (not Scottish) we have the Tudor era and Elizabethian era.
