I have made two previous attempts to answer this query but both have disappeared.
So, for the third and definitely last time, the connexion was genealogical.
The surname of the Grand Dukes of Tuscany was Medici, and that was also the surname of three Popes: Leo X {1513-1521}, Clement VII {1523-1534), and Pius IV {1559-1565}.
