I don't really know, but the title of 'Grand Duke of Tuscany" was conferred upon Francisco's father, Cosimo I, in 1569, by Pope Pius V. Maybe it has some connection to that.

: I'm looking at an engraving on a title page of
: a book. It has the arms of Grand Duke
: Francesco I of Tuscany impaled with those of
: his second wife Bianca Cappello.
:
: The supporter on one side is Justice. On
: the other side is a female figure holding
: the papal ombrellino and crossed keys (as
: seen on Papal State coins during a papal
: interregnum).
:
: I'm wondering if this second supporter is a
: reference to some papal office held by
: Francesco I. Any ideas?
