Interesting question. I've just done a pretty intensive web search for the provenance of the painting, and can't find anything about who sold it to the MFA.
: When I was in Boston last week visiting the
: Museum of Fine Arts, I came across gallery
: 208 where Gerrit Honthorst's magnificent
: (and huge) Allegory of Justice is currently
: being restored. The painting shows
: Elizabeth, Electress Palatine, with her
: children and dead husband.
: It was my understanding that this painting
: belonged to Prince Ernst August of Hannover.
: I do not know if there is more than one
: version. The painting being restored in
: Boston was sold in London several years ago
: and is on loan to the Museum of Fine Arts.
