: But - read in Dag's article mentioned in his
: message in this thread - king Zogs wife was
: related to most reigning and former reigning
: royal families of Europe, as she descended
: from the Princely House of Anhalt-Dessau.
:
: You cannot say that about Assad.
:
: How in the world is that relevant? None of
: those reigning families have deep roots in
: Albania, and in any case, no reigning family
: in the 1930s (except *maybe* Britain) would
: have considered Countess Geraldine a
: suitable bride for their king.
:
: To Guy, though, while I agree that it is
: rather shameless how some people support
: anyone who gives himself a royal title,
I just wonder who those "some people" are - I really hope that you or Guy don't believe that I fall into that category.
I find the history of the Zogu dynasty - and many of the persons belonging to it - fascinating. And I will continue to do so. As an historian I relate to the fact that - for better or worse - Albania was once a monarchy, and I think the country would certainly have been better under Zog after WW2 than the regime that took over.
: I
: would contend that Zog, for all his faults,
: was not a tyrant of the type of either Assad
: pere or fils, Qadaffi or Bokassa!
Well said!
