I understand Guy's point about the dilemma for a man married to a queen regnant. However, the only real option is the same that exists for a queen consort. He must devote his life to supporting his wife in her duties through good works. The Duke of Edinburgh is the exemplary model for this. Many men would find it very limiting and frustrating and, given traditional gender roles, probably more men than women would find it so. This might change as successive generations of middle- and upper-class women come of age with the expectation of pursuing high-powered careers. Nonetheless, it is really not plausible for a monarch's spouse to pursue an independent career.
