: Guy,
:
: How is it that Infanta Alicia is his heir?
: Isn't Austria semi-salic and would end up
: with Otto von Habsburg anyway?
Archduke Otto is not the semi-Salic descendent of Charles Quint anyway. Charles Quint abdicated for the Austrian territories before he married and they went to his brother. Had he not done so, their sovereign today would be Luis Alfonso de Borbon, I believe.
Is there
: anywhere where I can see all of these
: descents/successions? Fascinating.
:
: In an alternate universe would it go like
: this?
:
: Her Majesty Alicia, by the Grace of God,
: Queen of Hungary, of Bohemia, of Scotland,
: of Portugal, of Brazil, of Navarre, of
: Naples, of Sicily, Archduchess of Austria,
: Duchess of Burgundy, etc?

: The person with the most claims is Infanta
: Alicia. See is the genealogical
: representative of Emperor Charles V and of
: his vast dominions, inclyding not only
: Austria but Hungary and Bohemia, of the
: ancient dynasty of Scotland as heiress of
: David I, of Philip Ii's claim to Portugal
: and Brazil, and of course of his American
: Empire, of the ancient kings of Navarre, of
: the Aragon kings of Naples and Sicily ( her
: only son is heir to the Bourbon claim and
: will combine both eventually) and of the
: Habsburg dominions in the Netherlands
: including the ancient duchy of Burgundy.
: Then she is also the genealogical
: representative of Stanislas Leczynski, duke
: of Lorraine and sometime elective king of
: Poland, of the dukes of Milan and Parma
: (senior line) - her son represents by
: designation the Farnese primogeniture
: succession and as such the Farnese claim to
: Portugal and Tuscany. She is also the
: closest discernible representative of Edward
: the Confessor.

: Most of the titles of the King/Queen of the
: Netherlands, of the Prince of Monaco, etc,
: refer to noble titles or territories
: subsumed by their greater title.
:
: I think you are wrong in this respect, a lot
: of the titles of Queen Beatrix are of small
: towns and cities in present-day Belgium,
: Luxemburg and Germany.
:
: F.i.
: Countess of Katzenelnbogen (Germany)
: Countess of Vianden (Luxemburg)
: Viscountess of Antwerp (Belgium)
: Baroness of Arly & Nozeroy (France)
: Baroness of Diest (Belgium)
: Lady of Besancon (France)
: Lady of Turnhout (Belgium)

: The grand title usually does not count. For
: instance, all of the titles of the King of
: Prussia refer to provinces and territories
: of the Kingdom of Prussia itself. Most of
: the extra titles of the Emperor of Russia
: refer to territories of the Empire of Russia
: itself. Most of the titles of the King/Queen
: of the Netherlands, of the Prince of Monaco,
: etc, refer to noble titles or territories
: subsumed by their greater title.
:
: The difference with something like Bavaria,
: Greece, England, Scotland, France and
: Ireland is that all six of those were
: kingdoms which did not overlap whatsoever.

: Eh, I should have mentioned that too. I
: think
: "Emperor of Russia" contains most
: of those aside from the Oldenburg dynastic
: titles.

: Grand Duchess Maria of Russia? I beleive the
: Russian title covered many territories.
:
: cut from wikipedia
:
: Emperor and Autocrat of all the Russias, of
: Moscow, Kiev, Vladimir, Novgorod, Tsar of
: Kazan, Tsar of Astrakhan, Tsar of Poland,
: Tsar of Siberia, Tsar of Tauric Chersonesos,
: Tsar of Georgia, Lord of Pskov, and Grand
: Duke of Smolensk, Lithuania, Volhynia,
: Podolia, and Finland, Prince of Estonia,
: Livonia, Courland and Semigalia, Samogitia,
: Belostok, Karelia, Tver, Yugra, Perm,
: Vyatka, Bulgaria and other territories; Lord
: and Grand Duke of Nizhni Novgorod, Sovereign
: of Chernigov, Ryazan, Polotsk, Rostov,
: Yaroslavl, Beloozero, Udoria, Obdoria,
: Kondia, Vitebsk, Mstislavl, and all northern
: territories; Sovereign of Iveria,
: Kartalinia, and the Kabardinian lands and
: Armenian territories - hereditary Lord and
: Ruler of the Circassians and Mountain
: Princes and others; Lord of Turkestan, Heir
: of Norway, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein,
: Stormarn, Dithmarschen, Oldenburg, and so
: forth, and so forth, and so forth."

: I've been thinking about the interesting
: ways
: that certain royals can be heir general to a
: great number of historic territorial claims.
: I can't think of many off the top of my head
: though. Who are some European royals who fit
: in this group?
:
: When I think of the Duke of Bavaria, for
: instance, he is, for some people, titular
: King of Bavaria, of Greece, of England, of
: Scotland, of France and of Ireland. Although
: those are two extra 'claimed' successions
: (on his behalf), they do represent six
: historic kingdoms!
:
: How many potential, distinct, territories
: would someone like Otto von Habsburg be able
: to claim if he so wished? Yes, there is the
: grand title of the Austrian emperors but
: many of those mentioned are covered by other
: titles they had. For instance, the Kingdom
: of Hungary had kingdoms in it. Same with the
: Prussians!
:
: Any others?
