Grandduchess Catherine Pavlovna joined her brother tsar Alexander I on his visit to London. She was a widow and considered George as a possible spouse (his desire to divorce Caroline was well known throughout Europe). She however did not like him and meddled in his plans for the marriage of his daughter Charlotte of Wales to William of Orange (later king Willem II). During the Viennese Congres she met her cousin Wilhelm of Wurtemberg and they fell in love. He divorced his Bavarian wife (who went on to marry the Emperor of Austria) and the couple married a few weeks before her youngest sister Anna married Charlotte's discarded fiancé Willem of the Netherlands.
