the article 'reports' a claim to the throne: that Daniel Westling would have better claim to the throne than the Bernadottes.....
* this would presumably been a joke; however if it were not a joke:
then, let's look at its basis: a Dna test, showing the Daniel Westling has similar Dna as Birger jarl.
it should be clear to everybody that even a direct descent from Birger jarl does not mean any rughtful claim to the throne of Sweden, nor any rightful claim even to a royal heritage.
Namely, it was Birger jarl's wife who was the royal daughter, sister of the childless king Eric XI - and whose son (and later another son) were installed on their MATERNAL uncle's throne because of that dynastical heriitage - Birger jarl himself, though alive yet a long time, was NOT made king, because he himself was not royal in their view, he was spouse of a royal.
Now, history knows well that in addition to his royal wife, Birger jarl also married later another woman. And that Birger jarl had son with yet some mistress (who was not royal...), that son progeniting a lot of descendants in Sweden.
So, any proven descent from Birger jarl does not yet mean that a person has even a drop of royal heritage... let alone any right of claim to royal throne. The matter woould be different, were it proven that the descent would be from Birger jarl's that royal wife...
these are known male-line male descendants of Birger jarl's royal WIFE:

* by the way, it is proven in each generation by contemporary documentation that Crown Princess Victoria descends directly, via some females, from at least two of these, namely at least from a daughter of 2 Valdemar Birgersson, King of Sweden 1250-1275 b. 1237 d. 26 Dec 1302
and at least from a daughter of 3 Erik Magnusson, Duke of Södermanland b. Abt 1282 d. 1318
and, here's similarly descendants of Birger jarl himself, there being others who descendd from him but not from his mentioned wife:

* History can pretty well attest that the *male* line from Birger jarl's wife cannot continue in male line - beyond the year 1387.
Whereas, male-line descendants from Birger jarl's illegitimate son Gregers, are not so easily exhaustively mapped.

: On the other hand, since the 1200s monarchs
: of the dynasty pof Folkunge DO have
: descendants today, it is inevitable that
: most -if not all- of Swedish population
: (including Daniel Westling) is their
: descendants - most however cannot prove
: their precise lineage from the Folkunge but
: that does not mean such would not exist.

: So, the joke was actually not even a lie....
