Bergström is pronounced:
the first part, Berg, is pronounced by Swedes in a way which leaves a possibility for that -e- to have two slightly different outcomes: -e- or -ä- (they as themselves are close to each other)
Think about how an Anglo would pronounce their word 'berry'. The -i- in the end is practically the same as the Swede's end result of that -g- particularly when the next word starts with a consonant (ström). It needs an -i- then.
But, the Anglo's vowel -ö- (böri) in that 'berry', is nowhere near the -berg-;
the -e- alternative makes it quite the same -e- as in Kent;
the -ä- alternative is close to -e-, but resembles the vowel in the verb 'can' or the adjective 'bad'
the vowel in '-ström' is pronounced like the -oe- in English 'berry' or the first vowel in the English 'mermaid'.
Certainly no Swede would ever pronounce 'ström' with vowel -u-.
