: Queen Margrethe is not Queen of Denmark, but
: Denmark's Queen.
:
: Margrethe den anden, af Guds Nåde Danmarks
: Dronning (Margrethe the Second, By the Grace
: of God Denmark's Queen)
:
: The kings of Denmark has never been known as
: King of the Danes. Always as King TO
: Denmark. For centuries.
this, understood as categorically as written, is incorrect afaik.
In middle ages, those kings were kings of Danes and Vends, or in some rendition, of 'dacians and sclaves'
:
: Queen Margethe got rid of the old titles.
: Her father was:
:
: Frederik den Niende, af Guds Nåde Konge til
: Danmark, de Venders og Goters, Hertug til
: Slesvig, Holsten, Stormarn, Ditmarsken,
: Lauenborg og Oldenborg
I have a feeling that the 'king to d' is a newer invention, not medieval, but rather something like 1700s ideas...
pretty untraditional...
:
: (Frederik the Ninth, By the Grace of God
: King to Denmark, the Wends and Goths, Duke
: to Slesvig...)
