Posted by Phil Latter I'll be honest, here. Therefore, I am going to take a moment to say this: I've always been a fan of Ulysses Bloodstone, right from his first appearances in Marvel Presents first series, in the 1970's. And later, still, new Ulysses Bloodstone adventures were backup features in the magazine-sized Rampaging Hulk, later just called Hulk comics magazine. I think Ulysses Bloodstone as a character should NOT have been killed off. I've always thought that this was a waste of a TRULY unique character. What a shame. I still think this, despite the passing of several decades since the story of Ulysses Bloodstone's death story was chronicled in Rampaging Hulk/-Hulk magazine. Later still, there were a series of stories in Captain America chronicling what happened to the Bloodstone crystal itself, after Ulysses Bloodstone's demise. These stories, in my view, were rather disappointing. When, just a few years ago, a new colour Marvel Comics mini series came out called BLOODSTONE, I just assumed that Ulysses Bloodstone was being brought back to life in new stories. But no, this was not to be. Instead, these were stories about his daughter, taking over for him in his "monster hunting." I didn't dislike this series. But I didn't love it either. I hoped that Ulysses Bloodstone would come back to life as the mini series progressed. But, it was not to be. And thus, I was rather disappointed. Of course, before that series, there were one or more 'flashback' NEW Ulysses Bloodstone stories in the (last) version of Marvel Universe, which was an actual comics anthology series, not an encyclopedic listing of characters, unlike previous issues of Marvel Universe. Folks,
While I read and collected the late 1970's Marvel The Eternals first series, created and drawn by Jack Kirby --- and while I have been a huge fan of Jack Kirby my entire life, The Eternals never captivated me. It just didn't do it for me, unlike so many other of The King's works.
Nor did Devil Dinosaur.
Someone else on this Eternals Message Board posted something about Ulysses Bloodstone.
What a waste, in my considered opinion.
