:
: I am assuming that you're referring to the
: awesome battle in Ultimates 2 #5.
:
I am. Overall and okay battle. I've seen better and worse. I think it was probably Ultimate Thor's highest showing. (He doesn't have many.)
: You're right, Thor would probably be
: perceived as public enemy #1, but there
: would be the other half who would argue that
: he was fighting in self-defense. So the
: story would have continued in conflict.
:
Creating more chaos like Loki would want.
:
: So what you're trying to say is that by Thor
: being defeated in that battle, Loki made it
: worse for himself. It would have been in
: Loki's advantage to win that battle.
:
: There is some logic to that I guess. On the
: other hand, Loki wanted Thor out of the
: picture for two reasons; (1) sibling
: rivalry, and (2) one less person who knew
: the truth about Loki manipulating reality so
: that he can continue his mischievous acts.
:
Actually, now that I think about it for Loki it was a win/win situation. Thor looses and gets locked up in a cell where Loki can taunt him and Thor can't do anything to stop him. Thor wins Loki gets rid of a bunch of potential obstacles, further divides the world and brings it closer to World War 3, and Thor becomes public enemy #1.
Loki's subtle manipulations of reality were great enough to cover anything else.
The way I see it there were only three holes in Loki's plan. Two of which even he couldn't have really forseen or planned for.
1. Hawkeye suddenly being able to use his fingernails to kill people and overwhelming a bunch of guys with machine guns pointed at him before they could even kill him. Even in comics that is stretching things.
2. Odin freeing Thor and restorying his godhood. I don't see anything Loki could have done to prevent that.
3. Underestimating the Wasp. Even then the heroes might have still lost of it wasn't for 1. 2 only came into play when Loki decided to pull out all the stops.
