ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN <-- they'll never cancel it as long as Bendis is churning out stories that sell
ULTIMATE X-MEN <-- have stopped collecting it a long time ago, so definitely a candidate
ULTIMATE FF <-- have stopped collecting it a long time ago, so definitely a candidate
ULTIMATES <-- no need to comment on this
So I guess it's clear... Ultimates has been damaged beyond repair.

: This is an interview that I found where
: Quesada says that one of the Ultimte titles
: will be discontinued! Which Ultimate title
: do you think should get the axe and why?

: ULTIMATE REVEALS
: Marvel E-I-C Joe Quesada drops hints about
: Ultimate titles 'Origins' and
: 'Ultimatum'…and the book that gets axed!

:
: Way back in 2001, there was a sequence in
: Marvel Team-Up #3 where Bruce Banner
: plaintively and cryptically tells Spider-Man
: that, "It's all connected…They don't
: want you to figure it out. They don't want
: you to know." Well, now it appears they
: do. And in this case, the Marvel team-up for
: June, 2008 is Brian Michael Bendis and
: Jackson Guice, who have combined their
: talents for Ultimate Origins, a five-issue
: miniseries that will not only reveal the
: conspiratorial connection between Nick Fury,
: Captain America, the super-soldier serum and
: the Weapon X program, but will also set up
: the fall's imprint-altering Ultimatim series
: by Jeph Loeb and David Finch. Here, Marvel
: Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada previews the two
: defining series, talks about the
: cancellation of one Ultimate title and takes
: a look back at the line that arguably set
: the tone for comics in the 21st century.
:
: WIZARD: What can you tell us about Ultimate
: Origins?
: QUESADA: You're going to learn a lot about
: how the Ultimate Universe really came to be
: and many of the mysteries that were planted
: years ago by our writers, and [there'll be]
: the most incredible revelation which will
: cause several characters to rethink their
: role in the Ultimate Universe and will also
: put a stake in the sand that will say,
: "This is what makes the Ultimate
: Universe different. This is how the origin
: of a lot of our characters is very, very
: different than what you would witness in the
: Marvel Universe."
:
: Was this always the plan or did this develop
: over time?
: It was a little bit of both. There were
: definitely some stories we knew we wanted to
: tell that involved some of our characters
: and their pasts, and then there were a
: couple of other layers that were added later
: on as we started to get more and more
: involved with the universe.
:
: Those hints including that prophetic line in
: Marvel Team-Up where Bruce Banner says
: "It's all connected"?
: Believe me, when we get to that moment
: [where all is revealed], it literally will
: be that, "Luke, I'm your father"
: kind of moment where you go, "Oh my
: god!"
:
: So Darth Vader's gonna be in this, is that
: what you're saying, Joe?
: Uh, no. Unfortunately, we tried but we ran
: into some sort of copyright problems. Lucas
: really gets tough with that sort of stuff.
: But, no, it'll be that kind of a moment
: where you go, "Wow. What does this mean
: for all these characters and the way that
: they view themselves and what will they do
: now?" The beauty of the Ultimate
: Universe is that it allows us to do things
: that we could never even consider doing in
: the Marvel Universe just because we have 40
: years of history. But what's also been
: wonderful about the Ultimate Universe is it
: really is the road map of what you probably
: will see in the future of the Marvel
: Universe [in terms of] the tonality of the
: books. It's a great place for new readers to
: come on to our books and learn about the
: Marvel Universe in a small way. It's only
: four books a month, and it sets the tempo
: for what the flavor of Marvel Universe books
: is going to be like later on.
:
: What else should we expect from the Ultimate
: line of books?
: Ultimate Origins leads us right into
: Ultimatum and I can assure you there's going
: to be a major shake-up of titles and
: characters. Ultimate [Origins concludes] the
: end of this year so we're talking probably
: an unrecognizable Ultimate line, based upon
: today, in early 2009.
:
: And one of the Ultimate series will be
: canceled, but you can't say which one?
: I can't tell you because it gives a lot
: away. It may give away a big ending. But,
: yes, I mean, you know, some people will miss
: Ultimate Spider-Man. Some people won't.
:
: But will that canceled title come back,
: though—and we're assuming it's not Ultimate
: Spider-Man—whichever one it is?
: No, not in that same iteration. We'll be
: launching a few new things but the important
: thing is that we're still keeping the title
: count to three to four books a month. It's a
: good buy-in number for the new fan. You can
: say, "Listen, you pick up these four
: titles a month and you get a full universe
: of the highest possible quality." And
: every once in a while there might be a fifth
: book here and there as a miniseries that
: you'll see.
:
: Will there be any other miniseries?
: There is a series of miniseries by a huge
: creator that will happen in 2009. It's stuff
: that people have been asking for and really
: wanna see. And I do anticipate that we'll
: also finally get the finale of Ultimate
: Wolverine vs. Hulk. We have everything but
: the last script in from Damon [Lindelof] and
: of course Leinil [Yu] is still working on
: Secret Invasion so when Leinil's done with
: that I suspect he might want to finish that
: series, too. He was having a lot of fun on
: that.
:
: The title Ultimatum almost sounds like a
: threat, as if you might be saying, "If
: you don't buy this comic, Brian Bendis will
: ridicule you in his vicious letter
: column." Is that how the fans should
: take it?
: I will devour a kitten. Maybe several.
: [Laughs] No, you know, put in whatever you
: want. "Buy this issue or I fire Brian
: Bendis off of Ultimate Spider-Man." So
: if anybody likes that book, there you go.
:
: Continuing the trend of mining Hollywood for
: writers is "Heroes" writer Aron
: Coleite who's writing an X-Men arc that
: leads up to Ultimatum.
: We have been so impressed with Aron as a
: writer. So much so that Jeph Loeb had to
: call and yell at me because I had planned to
: offer Aron more Marvel work. Jeph said—and
: I'll try to give you the non-expletive
: version—"I introduced you to Aron
: because he's one of my best writers on
: 'Heroes,' so if you take him and put him on
: more books, it means that his attention
: won't be fully focused on 'Heroes' and I
: will have to do horrific things and acts of
: mutilation upon your body and your loved
: ones." So that was enough to make me
: really think twice about offering Aron a
: tremendous amount of work at Marvel. But I
: suspect that eventually he'll smarten up and
: realize that working for me is a much nicer
: place than working with Jeph Loeb.
