The Ultimate universe used to be the big thing with even some predictions that it would replace the traditional Marvel universe. Yet for the last year or so it seems to be less enthusiasm for it than even the main MU at its worst (save for maybe the nineties, but I wasn't reading for most of that period.)
Loeb's work on Ultimates 3 has been almost universally panned, but due to human ability to buy even works they don't like it so far has been selling well.
I haven't read, but have heard nothing but complaints on Ultimate X-Men.
Ultimate Fantastic Four has received mix reviews. It's being written by Mike Carey who has a history of doing good work.
About the only series that is usually universally praised is Ultimate Spider-Man.
Every once in awhile a mini-series comes out with mix results. Ellis' work is usually praised, but others receive mixed reviews or are not completed if just despised.
Ultimatum seems to be intended to be a shot of adrenaline in the Ultimate Universe to keep it alive, but does anyone even care. Also, since it is being written by Loeb whose work at Marvel at least from online reviews has mostly been considered subpar with it even get anyone interested? Should the Ultimate universe be written off as a neat experiment that just went sour? Or can it still exist with the main MU?
