: There was actually a time where I honestly
: felt that they should just trash the entire
: MU and replace it with the far more superior
: UU. Now, my feeling is that the Ultimate
: Universe will die within the next 3 years
: entirely.
:
: Such a shame. Bring Millar back!!!
Marvel hasn't lost the UU; they've thrown it away. Abandoned it. With the possible exception of Mark Waid, could you think of a less appropriate writer to take over ULTIMATES than Loeb? It's like an intentional effort to bury what had been one of their best books (and boy, is Loeb ever burying it!). Ellis was already doing the ULTIMATE HUMAN thing--why didn't they just call that ULTIMATES 3, and see if he's interested in continuing? And why not get Howard Chaykin to continue SQUADRON SUPREME, instead of destroying that GREAT book by making him incorporate the garbage from ULTIMATE POWER?
It's a lack of vision we're seeing that is remarkably depressing. It puts me in mind, oddly enough, of how badly SUPER VILLAIN TEAM-UP, of all things, was allowed to collapse in the 1970s after a strong start because no one at Marvel had any vision of a project that so challenged what they were used to doing.
