It isn't about putting "a capper on his worst excesses"; it's about the best way to let him do what he does best, and that requires a MAX book. Howard is not an "all ages" kind of writer; by making him do that sort of work, you're effectively hiring a great, ballsy writer for a great, ballsy book, then emasculating him. He often gets a bad rap for his work, in fact, when he's made to do it under those restrictions. As one of the posters in another forum said, if you hire Howard, you have to let Howard be Howard. You don't hire Jesus Franco to direct "Parent Trap part 48." Well, actually, I would, but I wouldn't impose Disney's restrictions on it!
