: Now I know nothing of Chaykin's writing
: (just that I'm not a big fan of his art). As
: for the artist on the new series (forgot his
: name), he ain't bad, but I guess I'm just
: biased towards Gary Frank because he's been
: on it since day one and has done a splendid
: job.
I don't know the work of the new SS artist. I really like Howard's art, though--I'd be pleased as cheese if he was also doing that. I'll give the new fellow a shot. It's not really fair to hold against a new artist the fact that he isn't the old artist (though I've probably done it myself over the years, like everyone else).
As far as writing, Chaykin would have been the perfect choice to continue JMS' series, but the news is, unfortunately, that he isn't going to be doing so--he's going to be following up on ULTIMATE POWER, instead, a totally different animal. It makes no sense to bring in Chaykin, whose strengths are in the sort of material JMS was doing, then make him pick up after a wretched turd like that, which doesn't play to his stengths at all.
: I'll still buy this though.
Definitely. And, being Howard, it will probably be great. It isn't going to be more than a pale shadow of what the series had been before, though; the point at which Chaykin is starting renders that impossible.
