Posted by Spidercat on 4/4/2007, 1:10 am Ultimate Spider-Man: Police scientist/inactive SHIELD operative. Similar to his occupation in MC2, but edgier, I see Spidey becoming an expert in tracking criminals through a mix of DNA-profiling and computer hacking. He'll have received SHIELD computer training and may even secretly have access to SHIELD computer databanks which he uses in his investigations (with or without Fury's consent). At one point, Fury attempted to make him a team member of the Ultimates, but Spidey's constant refusal to support the Ultimates' more questionable actions leads him to being kicked off the team, although his relationship with Fury keeps him from being killed or imprisoned. His Spider-Man identity still a government secret, Peter continues to fight street-level crime as Spidey, but fears that a SHIELD regime change could quickly put an end to both his costumed and civilian life. Kitty Pryde: Mutant civil rights activist. Following her experiences as a known mutant in the public school system, not to mention other public systems, Kitty gained a greater awareness and knowledge of how mutants are treated outside of mutant institutes like Xavier's. This has led her to become a popular Martin Luthor King Jr.-style activist intent on using peaceful means to generate better understanding between mutants and humans. Her phasing gifts prove pivotal in keeping demonstrations from turning into violent riots and have gained her the respect of other popular activitists like Thor (although her popularity never comes anywhere close to his level). Like MLK, however, she is the frequent target of assassination attempts, with some creative ways of getting around her mutant abilities. Mary Jane Watson: Superhuman trauma-treatment specialist. Building on her dream of becoming a teacher who matters, MJ decided to become a group therapy leader for anyone who has suffered trauma related to superhuman activity. Her first-hand experience in this area makes her a particularly effective analysist -- and she has a diverse clientle, from people in relationships with superheroes to those who have suffered injuries from major superhuman battles to parents of superheroes. Unfortunately, her constant exposure to frequently negative superhuman activity has caused her to develop subtle biases against superhumans, which damages many of the relationships in her personal life. Bobby Drake/Iceman: After a string of failed relationships, Bobby takes a sabatical from the X-Men and winds up in the North Pole. There, his mutant powers prove key to repairing the major damage done to the polar ice caps, giving the Earth a second chance at combating global warming. This grants Bobby an almost martyr-like celebrity status, but quickly begins wearing thin as he realizes he really hates the hermit lifestyle. Reed Richards: His continually growing brainpower eventually becomes too much and Reed retreats to a monastary/mental institution where he is regarded by many as a cross between the Dali Lama and Steven Hawking. Constantly given to scribbling random facts and observations on his wall, Reed's notes are eventually comandeered by zealots who turn those ramblings into a new form of Scientology.

Thought I'd start a new thing here -- where do you think some of the Ultimate characters will wind up in ten years -- assuming they're still alive and functioning? This is just a speculative game of course -- with the way the Ultimate timeline moves, we'll probably never see any of this. Even so, here's my thoughts:
