If you complain because you love the title and want to see more of it, well, you'll just have to be patient. Rome wasn't built in a day as they say. I personnally love Ultimates and Ultimate Fantastic Four, but am actually bored to tears but Ultimate X-Men and often reduced to scoffing and rolling my eyes at the train wreck that is Ultimate Spiderman. Like i said before, Comics are a serial format, and you have to get used to delays etc, because you wouldn't have these comics without Millar, and Crohns disease is seriously destructive and painful. He's paid to do a job, and he makes silly amounts of money for marvel. So basically, i have no problems with delays if the comicbook is good. And in most cases, Ultimates and Civil War ARE good. In both words, plot and Images. --Previous Message--

I, personnally, don't CARE. Comics are a serial format, and can be REREAD. Sure if you LOVE a comicbook, you want it to come out on time, and for some people that a serious issue. If your train is late and you're late to work, then find another form of transport. If your only option is the train and its consistantly late. Tough.
: First things first, Merry Christmas everyone
: and Happy Holidays.
:
: I hope not to put anyone on a sour note, but
: this thought has just been haunting my mind
: so I need to get it out of my head.
:
: As everybody knows the comics industry has a
: tendency to at times be late when it comes
: to publishing issues on time. Not all, but
: some of them. I can't comment on DC since I
: don't read their comics though I have heard
: they have had problems. The ones I have
: referring too are Marvels.
:
: Civil War has been delayed by about two
: months. Both Ultimates 1 and 2 have
: suffered immense delays. Ultimate Hulk vs.
: Wolverine may remain incomplete. This
: naturally has some fans riled.
: I've surfed the Internet and several message
: boards and the two opposing sides about this
: issue seem to be summed up as follows.
: Note: Most of what follows concerns
: Ultimate Avengers.
:
: Not complaining about the lateness: 1. The
: art and story (at least in Millar's and
: Hitch's case) is worth the wait.
: 2. Years from now nobody is going to
: remember it was late.
: 3. Most people will buy it in tpb.
: 4. Millar and Hitch have had personal
: problems. Miller got sick in 2005 and Hitch
: got married, etc.
: 5. The direct market it dead.
:
: Arguments against tolerating the lateness
: 1. Millar and Hitch were paid to do a job.
: In nearly any other job such lateness would
: not have been tolerated. Even if it was
: personal problems they would have only had a
: few weeks at best. This one has been
: mentioned by people who claim to work at
: publishing companies and t.v. production.
: No way to verify one way or the other, but
: still makes sense.
: 2. It is very unprofessional for them to
: take so long when other writers and artists
: are able to produce monthly titles. Hurts
: the reputation of Marvel as well.
: 3. Both have had other projects and managed
: to get them done. (Miller: Ultimate
: Fantastic Four, Civil War, Hitch: Doctor
: Who).
: 4. Lateness started before Millar's
: problems.
: 5. Ruins the flow of the story.
: 6. Turns off readers who get excited, but
: loose interest due to constant delays. This
: while maybe not hurting sells much does not
: do a thing to increase sells. Especially
: for people who may not be able to make it to
: the comic shop except for once a month.
:
: I think that about sums it up. Now, it was
: posted that Hitch probable gets paid about
: $500 dollars per page. Hitch stated in an
: interview he can usually get done about a
: page per day.

:
: Now with that kind of incentive it seems to
: me the guys who argue against the lateness
: have a good point. In virtually any other
: job such lateness would not have been
: tolerated. Both Millar and Hitch have taken
: on various assignments while working on
: this. Marvel does look stupid when it has
: to keep redoing the publishing date. If
: they didn’t keep soliciting the issue then I
: might be more understandable. Other writers
: and artists are able to publish good stories
: and art without the huge delays.
:
: While I can understand personal problems to
: an extent and even taking into account the
: delays have exited either before the
: problems or over such a long period of time
: that in other jobs the personal problems
: would not have been much of a factor.
: Especially when you consider they have been
: working on other projects at the time.
:
: Even assuming the direct market is dead many
: of the direct market fans are long time
: readers. The constant delays I think are an
: insult to those fans.
:
: Now, some people consider Millar and Hitch
: to be virtually gods when it comes to the
: Ultimates and any delay is worth it and
: won’t consider reading Ultimates 3. Others
: can understand some of the delays, but fail
: to understand the current ones. Finally,
: many are disgusted for the reasons I have
: stated above.
:
: Anyway, I’ve said my peace. Personally,
: while can understand some delays, if one
: takes in the various factors that have been
: mentioned they have become ridiculous and I
: think hurt sells. Maybe the direct market
: is dead, but things like this are only
: killing it faster.
