(From The Dragonfly Secrets)
Certain among the sisters came unto the father of their family, their beloved Shan, asking: Why is it necessary that one who is of goodwill and purity of heart should bother herself with the drudgery of weekly chapel and daily ritual? And Shan answered, saying: Should you find yourself blessed by an inspiration that feels warm and wonderful to the spirit, savor it for its rarity. Seek out tangible icons and use them as reminders. Strive with diligence to keep that inspiration flowing continuously through the foreground of your life. Nurture it each day, as you would a pet lamb. Love it, and it will sustain you. But neglect it, and it will rapidly evaporate into memory as just one more warm and wonderful moment that came once and then went. Icons remind you to nurture, and not neglect, the memories of your best moments. Experiences without routine reminders slip away and are lost forever.
