Shepard Smith blasts reporter for not covering both sides--with video
To be fair, there are maybe two or three people on FNC who are to be commended for trying to actually BE fair and balanced. Bill Hemmer is one (and, to a slightly lesser degree, his sidekick, Megyn Kelley as well); Geraldo Rivera pretty much calls it like he see it, apparently not paying much attention to what Rupe and the bigwigs think. And Shepard Smith is another Foxer who deserves kudos for maintaining his credibility through thick and thin.
There was a time when I was highly critical of Smith and his show. I felt like he was a showboater and his show was too noisy and hyperkenetic. But I have since grown to admire him for actually doing real news coverage--and doing it pretty darn fairly. Back when all the networks were covering Teddy Kennedy's funeral, I thought Shep did an amazing job of capturing the sentiment of the moment and portraying Kennedy in the best light.
Now he has come through again--chastising (on the air!) one of FNC's own reporters for being one-sided...and even apologizing to his viewers! Check out the piece linked above and see if you don't agree that Shep seems to be determined to remain above the fray and to do credible news reporting. What a breath of fresh air that is to those of us who care about such things!
