The latest is that Ms. Prejean has now been stripped of her title by pageant officials and owner Donald Trump, who allege that she has not been keeping up with her responsibilities as Miss California. She is protesting, saying that the organization has been trying to oust her ever since the controversy first arose.
So, do I still support her? Well, yes and no. My opinion hasn't changed regarding her right to speak openly and candidly when backed into a corner, as she was, and forced to answer an awkward and politically charged question. I still feel her answer was a good one, even if it did represent only one half of the debate. And her staunch support of the institution of traditional marriage is a valid one, and one with which many, if not most, mature Americans would concur.
However, if it is true that she is now behaving in a way that is irresponsible and not in keeping with terms of her contract, then that is another matter entirely. As Miss California, Carrie Prejean had a job to do. And if she was not doing it, she probably needed to be let go, just as you or I would be if we were sloughing off in our jobs. I feel sorry for her because she has a lot on the ball. But, as I have said before, she is still a kid. And, for all her fame and notoriety, she is going to act like a teenager. Let's just hope she learns from her mistakes and gets out there and does good things with her abilities and attributes.
And may we all take lessons like this to heart and teach them in our homes to our children.
