Great account Martin. I remember how surprised I was to open the 'Radio Times' and see that Don was on. He was kind of old news by then and you didn't expect him turning up on a special, especially one filmed in the UK.
I never got involved in fan clubby things though I do remember thinking about joining when there was an advert in one of the tour brochures for the Dave New thing (Friends of Don McLean as I recall). I think it was Hannah who told me she tried to join but never really heard much.
I think anyone who would have an obscure album cover tattooed on his back would have to be classed as odd. I wonder what happened to Ricky Ainsworth - never seen her or Dave New for that matter involved in any of the online stuff. Strange they should just fade away...
