Went to an acoustic show by the legendary Byrds frontman last night at London's lovely Cadogan Hall. This was the second time I'd been there in a few weeks because I saw Ralph McTell there last month. It is a lovely intimate venue and perfect for acoustic stuff.
An added bonus was that the support was by the lovely Edwina Hayes who I have now seen several times after first seeing her with Loudon Wainwright a couple of years ago. As usual she gave a great show. Her interpretation of Randy Newman's 'Feels Like Home' is on the soundtrack of the new Cameron Diaz film 'My Sister's Keeper' so maybe that will give her broader exposure. You can see a clip on her homepage here:

Roger McGuinn strode on on playing Dylan's 'My Back Pages' on a 12 string electric guitar. He alternated between playing that and a signature 7-string Martin. His set was interesting, basically a 90 minute tour through his career, interspersed with songs and anecdotes. The highlight of course was when he burst into the familiar opening riff to 'Mr Tambourine Man'. He ended the main set with Seeger's 'Turn, Turn, Turn' before coming back for a couple of encores.
The internet being what it is I found that he has a page on Twitter and that led me to a blog page largely maintained by his wife Camilla. The reason I mention this are because the most recent blogs cover Pete Seeger's 90th birthday concert and the song '8 miles high' both of which I thought were relevant here.
I had never heard '8 miles high' before but had heard that it was banned for being about drugs. As you can see from the blog, McGuinn's explanation of the lyrics is more prosaic (or maybe Prozac
)!
