Thank you Karman and Martin for taking an interest in my little mystery. It's Don-related, by the way, but I can't say how, due to oaths sworn in rum and many a yo ho ho's. 
I tried sending a message to the sender, but an old friend, Mr Mailer-Daemon, replied instead:
Sorry your message cannot be delivered. This account has been disabled or discontinued.
