Well I did post further and I did get a reply. For those who don't frequent the official site here are the posts:

As I understand it, the UK price does not include delivery which is a further £4!!
I want to own this CD. However, I am not prepared to pay £24 for it. If that makes me a stereotypically mean Scotsman then so be it. The price is quite simply outrageous and an insult to fans who have supported Don loyally over the years.
It really pains me to write this, and to know that I will have to wait even longer to hear the CD, but sometimes a stand has to be made.

Billh - the price is £20 including P&P for UK delivery.
While the US fulfilment centre in Indianapolis could process UK orders, this would increase the cost well above £20 as they only provide international fulfilment via courier. Instead of single item fulfilment it is cheaper to bring across a consignment and then dispatch from the UK. The £20 cost mainly represents the additional cost of consignment transportation via courier and UK import duty (the US cost is $20 + $4.95 p&p). Unfortunately shipping to the rest of the world (and we don’t mean Scotland) adds £3.95 and there are various reasons for this.
Don McLean makes items available for sale in his store under strict terms and conditions and the website has no power to deviate from them.
Me (still awaiting moderation on official site so you may not see it there yet)
Thanks for the clarification Alan. I sincerely apologise if I have got the facts on delivery pricing wrong. I have not yet tried to order the CD, but my information came from a source in the UK that I would consider reliable. I will recheck. Incidentally, I understand from another source (I have spies everywhere!)that things are even worse if you live in the eurozone, with an overall cost of over 27 euros!
I fully appreciate that your hands are tied on this one and my original posting was in no way meant to denigrate the sterling (excuse the pun) efforts you have made to make this thing available. It does seem however that effectively we are currently paying for an import CD from a monopoly seller.
Are there any plans to actually release the CD in the UK, or even make it available for paid download? I really can’t see many purchasers, even at £20. Does Don realise what a high price this represents compared to other offerings?
Glad you are enjoying the CD Bob…I look forward to sharing opinions with you when I finally hear it!
Regards
Bill
So if you were charged £4 for shipping Han, I would question it since last time I looked Portsmouth was in the UK!!
