Posted by $crooge McNix on 4/11/2005, 10:10 am It was pretty cool to have the three nephews control the animals with their whistles and even ride the vicious beasts but what was the point? Yes Scrooge makes it to the auction but we are left not knowing who won the Kaffir de Gaffir mine. We assume that $crooge did because he's not yelling on the plane ride home but the ending had no point other than a joke by the nephews. Where's the exciting nail-biting conclusion that "The Second Richest Duck" and "The Money Champ" had? It's unfortunately absent and the third time is supposed to be the charm! There's no denying that Carl Barks is a genius with his many unique creations but this one could have been great but falls shrot of that. How to improve upon it? Show several more auction panels where it clearly shows that $crooge won by having $crooge mention something so valuable that there is no way Glomgold could top it! Then before the ducks travel home have them all looking at piles of gold they mined then have the final panel with the nephews. This story had so much more potential! Anybody else have problems with this story?

Sorry to all who love this one but this in my opinion is the worst Carl Barks tale I've read so far and easily the worst Glomgold tale.
I couldn't figure out why after two great Glomgold stories Barks did his third with a lot of exciting buildup and a really disappointing anticlimactic ending.
The first half is fun but the ending is really disappointing. After reading such greats as "Only A Poor Old Man" and "The Sunken City" aka "The Secret of Atlantis" it's hard to believe that he did "So Far and No Safari".
