Glad you brought it over here, I read it and I could not believe it. Hopefully we can explain this more over here. Heart and courage is something I have to be in awe of in hunting dogs, I was always amazed by it. When Randy went his first time he came home and told me I had to go and see first hand the hunting dogs. I must say my first time I was definitely hooked. The drive, heart, courage, and stamina of these hunters is amazing and truly can not be "trained". What many think they find in a "pen test" is only the surface, what really counts is "fight in the dog" many refer to this as "gameness" but it is truly heart, courage. When out hunting you want a dog that will not back down, you don't want a dog that will "curr out" when faced with the prey. I have seen that in dogs we have hunted with, they stay till the fight is over. We had the pleasure of going to Argentina and seeing first hand some great hunting Dogos, like Tia and Morocho, we got to see how a pack of Dogos hunt and they are impressive. I fell in love with Tia and Morocho they are true example of what the Dogo was meant to be. We got to also see how they are tested for heart, again impressive. We got to see Dogomans Juan another truly impressive Dogo. What I am trying to say is that a hunting dog no matter the breed, has to have heart and courage and the will to do what it takes when the time comes. I have hunted with BMC's and pitts and Dogos, and I do have to say my favorites are any dog that shows heart/stamina, and courage, and you can not teach any dog that, it is either there or it is not. It is not how much dog is in the fight, it is how much fight is in the dog. When a Dogo or any dog gets to the prey what matters then is engaging the prey, and that takes heart/stamina to do what is necessary. You might be able to show interest in a pen, but it is different in the field too many variables come into play, a bay breaking, and as Marcelo has stated, sometimes they just go out after another scent, and that is when they are truly tested to see if they have it or not.
Sorry to be so long winded.
