Hi Gerry, thanks, I know what you mean but disagree to some extent; as in, if what the breeder is saying he doesn't feel there is a dogo that he has seen that is living breathing perfection of the standard. ? Maybe that's unattainable, or he/she is just so focused on constant improvement of some type, that they haven't seen form/function perfectly unit to the standards intent??
I have for years known retriever breeders, who all will tell you their dogs are absolutely the best. The divide in show / performance provides an excuse for neglecting form entirely and justifying breeding practices only by performance...and vice versa in the show ring.
I truly respect a breeder that isn't "kennel blind", and that can say this dog or that dog is a better example...none that I see right now are the best.
As a field influenced person, I have a preference for function first, form second, but want to be able to more apporpriately identify the correct form.
Right now Ryan will tell you (hahaha) that Brewtus is the best form alive today : ). I'd be inclinded to say that Sonadora is better....lol...and that's where personal biased get in the way of discussing what we should be looking at to improve physically or functionally.
All the best
Wayne
