I think that it's a shame how breeds MORPH into something else(sometimes considerably different from the original standard) after they are exposed to AKC(or maybe that's just
conformation focus,or American focus{bigger is better} as a rule)
Oversized,Different shapes(I love that sloped back of the show shepherd versus the REAL working Dogs and etc etc)Inevitably the breeds change as the push/focus towards that (conformation-being kind I guess) becomes the emphasis.Working dogs that cannot WORK(I love the English Bulldogs' stated history-a working dog that was/is supposed to be able to help catch Bulls)It is somewhat funny when you consider how that sounds:a working breed that is incapable of working?!?!?
I always thought that it was funny when I would meet people who would say-"yep my dog is AKC registered" because they thought that registration meant something about the quality of their dog(![]()
I imagine that the next few years will be interesting-to say the least-for the new breeds which have become Breeds that are now AKC registered(able) dogs- I think that the comparison to the REAL dogs versus the new AKC dogs will be INTERESTING.
Just as- the IMPORTED REAL WORKING dogs compare to the dogs which have been bred to suit the American public and the AKC show mentality.
I know that I have said this before-but when I first started going out to (man sport) working fields- I was blown away by the difference in the imported WORKING breeds(German Shepherds,Rottweilers,Airdales,Bouviers and etc){the ones that COULD work
}
versus what I had been accustomed to seeing here in the states-almost looked like "a different animal".
[I love that sloping back of the AKC GERMAN(they forgot that,somehow) Shepherd
as an example-lol.]
I don't why the AKC breeds seem to,SOMEHOW,(![]()

)GROW so much larger than their WORKING counterparts in their Countries of Origin.Maybe it's the great Dog foods that we have here.
Interesting stuff
