not talking about 1880s talking about 1920s. most of the old bull & mastiff breeds had declined in the face of technology. many went extinct in the early to mid 20th century only to be "rediscovered" in the 1980s. so unless there is an accurate and detailed history covering that period all "ancient" breeds are suspect.
