I haven't seen a Rattlesnake since we've been here and we hike in the desert 2,3 days a week.Tonight we were walking back and I heard "that sound",I jumped about 10 feet high, felt this warm feeling down my legs,and when I came back down the Warden had beaten him to death with her walking stick...he was right on the trail.
(and then she looked at my wet pants and gave me "the warden scowl" and said "Guess what?!? YOU'RE doing the laundry"{is that something NEW???})
I think that it's a Speckled Rattler from what I can tell(from the pictures on this site)
