Oh, YEAH! Save me a hawss on the carousel, okay?! And a spot in line at one of the vichy water ("pishy water") fountains - just for old times' sake! LOL
The BS dime store was small, and was probably, in the 50s and 60s, much the same as it had been in the 20s and 30s - all kinds of embroidery things, and little china knickknacks, and all manner of "sundries" as they used to be called. I loved going there.
There was also a luncheonette (lunch counter with revolving stools covered in oilcloth, and booths with little jukeboxes) that served THE best meatball sub I have ever had in my life, bar none.
Another little town I was always fond of because it was SO pretty and quiet was Round Lake. And there was a WONDERFUL bakery in Burnt Hills - they had round, crusty loaves that they made with rice flour - MMMMMM!!
Until Da Elder son got hurt in March, we had been planning a Mother-Son road trip Upstate ... I'm hoping we can get it in either this fall or early next spring before he goes to Afghanistan in April, 2010.
