My first thought of warm summer nights in the 40's is moving my bed against the wall under the open window & laying there supine above the sheets hoping for a breeze.
Our Candy store on Elmhurst ave, was Alwaise & I was sent the 3 blocks to hurry back home with the packed quart+ of loose icecream, packed so the lids humped up over the top.
I'd watch Mr. Alwaise fill the container useing a big spoon dipped in a wide jug of water the color of all the icecream he scooped out that day, a color not to be found on any artwork chart.
How we clutched our nickle waiting for the icecream man's truck, heard blocks away, Bungalowbar, or with a quarter a trip to Baumans Ice Cream Palor for a ice cream soda & that place was A/C'ed.
Today we open a door, the fridge,to get ice cream & depend on a electrical thing stuck to the wall to control the room temperature of our choice year round.
How's everyone doing ?
