Those were simpler times...sadly the mellow rolls are gone, along with a way of life most of us experienced growing up.
We too made rafts with Popsicle sticks, and saved the Dixie cup lids.
We got along without AC, and played in the streets no matter how hot (or cold) it might be.
When I think back to the streets of South Ozone Park, Woodhaven, and Richmond hill, no thoughts of weather, temperature, or conditions come to mind...I can see the schoolyard of PS 100 as clear as if I was standing there now...and, in my mind, hear the sounds of all the different activities all going on at the same time.
Today it's air conditioning, video games, computers, and, if it's outside activities, it mostly pre planned, organized, and supervised.
Personally, I wouldn't trade thtose days for
anything.
