Fortunately for us kiddies, the side streets in "Alphabetland" got plowed only once in a great while - PITA for the adults who had to struggle to try to move cars (most gave up and trudged up to Roosevelt Avenue to catch the el), but we had LOTS of fun with our sleds, and having snowball fights - BEST fun was to launch a barrage of snowballs at the branches of those huge elm trees when some unsuspecting kid was in the middle of the street - ALL the snow from the tree would dump on him/her. We also liked to take our sleds or flying saucers (... or galvanized garbage can lids ... jeez - my mother would STILL kill me if she knew I EVER rode a garbage can lid - ven a brand new one!)) and sled down the gentle little hill on Britton Avenue between Forley and Gleane Streets.
