For local picnics, definitely Forest Park - besides the picnic areas there were the playground, ponies to ride, and of course, the carousel. Bear Mountain State Park was another favorite, and getting there was half the fun - along the Storm King Highway and across the Tappan Zee Bridge. We'd go there summer and winter - always lots to do!
