FANTASTIC PHOTOS!They brought back many memories. I was born in 1929 in Whitestone to a religious Jewish family. As a child we would go to downtown N.Y. via the Delancy St bridge. We would have lunch at Ratners Dairy Restaurant,(no longer there). After lunch we would shop on Hester St., Orchard St., and Broome St. at the pushcarts and some of the stores. I would listen to my Mom bargaining with the shopkeepers as to price, and she always got it for less money than originally asked. This was tradition. The smells of the hot yams, and chestnuts from the pushcarts still remain with me. I remember going to the pickle stand and only wanting the pickles from the bottom of the barrel. Those are memories that I will have forever.
